Do you have a new job you need to be at in another city? Do you need to be in your new home before the start of the next school year? As you start to think through your primary objective it may become apparent that time is more important or price remains at the top. Whatever it is, this is an essential first question when asking yourself, “Is Now the Right Time to Sell?”
Is the market up or down?
For most of us, when we think about timing the market, it all relates to how the real estate market is performing in general. Is it up? Is it down? What is up? What is down? The media does a great job of sensationalizing these trends when in reality that is only a part of the story. As you know the three main words in real estate are, “location, location, location”. Put another way, the market may be up in your friend’s neighborhood and down in yours! The only way to know this for sure is to sit down with a trusted real estate professional and see how the market is performing relative to your home, not just the general trend.
Is it the right time of year to sell?
We hear about it in real estate all the time, it’s the “Spring Market” or the “Fall Market”, two periods in the year where historically more sales occur than in other parts of the year. Let’s be honest, most people don’t want to shop for homes when it’s really cold out or really nice out…the shoulder seasons of spring and fall is where the action happens! That said, don’t be deterred if you want to list in summer or winter, homes still do sell but we may have to be a little more aggressive with our marketing!

The fact of the matter is, now may not be the right time to sell. And it might not be the right time to sell for the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a home that fits your family needs. Sometimes you just need to freshen things up. Before you go spending any money make sure have an idea about what your future holds as with any investment, you want to know if you a making an investment for your pocketbook or for your life! They can be two very different things!
