Fall and Winter at the coast can feel a bit drab at times, once the rain rolls in and the winds start whipping but the locals have found ways to cope with and even celebrate these darker days. One of the largest events Cannon Beach hosts during the fall season is the annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival and this year the festival turns 30!

Growing up on the coast, we looked forward to this 3 day celebration as a chance to catch up with community members and take time to enjoy our lovely town. Every first weekend of November, Cannon Beach opens it’s doors to the public in order to honor the artistic culture, deeply rooted within the community. It’s mostly focused on the art galleries showcasing their most talented artists and pairing that art with tasty treats from local vendors, it’s a dang good time.

The weekend’s activities start off with a Stormy Weather Arts Benefit & Cocktail Party Friday night, including a silent auction featuring vacation packages among other prizes. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to multiple children’s arts programs in town including, the Coaster Theatre’s Coaster Kidz Theatre Camp, the Cannon Beach Arts Association Children’s Summer Art Camp and the Sea Ranch Children’s Summer Music Camp.

Throughout Saturday, enjoy the sounds of local musicians as they play at different locations in town (indoors and out weather pending). Along with touring the galleries, on Saturday morning visitors can view the Dancing in The Rain Fashion show, featuring both national and local designers.

Saturday evening the Coaster Theatre will be hosting the recently added Spotlight Concert. This year’s feature artist will be Heels to the Hardwood, an Americana band hailing from Seattle. Sunday, wrap up the beautiful weekend by heading to the Blues Brews & Barbecues celebration for the ultimate pairing of local beer, good food and live Jazz.
